Memorial dedication for Confederate patriot Saturday

Harrison, Ark. – Lt. John Wesley Story died March 10, 1916 in Birmingham, Alabama, after an attack of pneumonia. He was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Harrison beside his wife who died here in 1898. In his life he had been a prominent lawyer and a known member of the Masonic Lodge.

Story, a native of White County, Tennessee, moved to Arkansas in 1885. A Presbyterian, in 1861 he enlisted in the Confederate Army and served in Co. I 4th Tenn. Cavalry throughout the war.

According to Everett Burr with JO Shelby Camp in Harrison, “For reasons unexplained he was buried in an unmarked grave until Aug. 2016 when Robert Edwards the Arkansas Division Commander of the Sons of Confederate Veterans contacted David Krueger of the JO Shelby Camp here in Harrison and told him about Lt. Story.”

With the help of Toinette Madison of the Boone County Heritage Museum, David Krueger and Burr located the exact location were Lt. John Wesley Story lay….
