In our on-going series regarding the relief effort for hurricane Harvey, today we turn a spotlight on the Texas Division of The Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army is well known for its disaster relief programs, often getting to the disaster scene before many other well-known charities. TSA is also known for a very low overhead (10%) with donations, and zero overhead with disaster funds.
The relief effort for Harvey is no exception from TSA’s usual standards. Currently, TSA personnel are working alongside first responders, distributing food to victims of the storm at shelters in Corpus Christi. In addition to meeting the needs of Texas civilians, TSA also makes sure that the first-responders are getting food and coffee, to keep them going during the long hours of the rescue and relief.
TSA’s relief efforts are not restricted to Corpus FEMA dome. In addition to disaster scene efforts in Pasadena, Conroe, Texas City, and Galveston; and mobile feeding efforts at Port Aransas, Aransas Pass, Ingleside, Portland, Tuloso-Midway High School Shelter; there are also state-wide efforts to shelter and support evacuees in cities such as Dallas, San Antonio, Temple, Kerrville, and other Salvation Army facilities.
