More Than 2,000 DACA Recipients Have Been Charged With Crimes

WASHINGTON D.C. (Western Journalism) – Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., referred Tuesday to those covered by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program as “800,000 innocent young people.”

Using similar language, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said Trump’s planned phaseout of DACA was a “despicable assault on innocent young people.”

And, not to be outdone, former President Barack Obama, who created DACA with the stroke of a pen in 2012, said that “To target these young people is wrong — because they have done nothing wrong.”

Then there are the facts.

In looking at federal data, The Washington Examiner analyzed some of the numbers and found 2,139 cases in which so-called “dreamers” were either accused or convicted of crimes.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office reported that the biggest issue facing “dreamers” is a 30 percent spike in the numbers who are willing to risk their DACA status “due to criminality or gang affiliation concerns.”
