Police won’t interfere with protest to keep Confederate statues — unless there’s trouble

 

Dallas News – A group claiming to “protect all things Texas” intends to protest Dallas’ Confederate monuments on Saturday at the same park where one such statue was removed this week.

The demonstrators, This Is Texas Freedom Force, have rallied across the state to support such tributes, and they list groups such as Occupy Austin and Black Lives Matter as the “opposition.”

The group was planning to protest near a statue of  Gen. Robert E. Lee at Lee Park on Saturday, but Dallas officials removed the statue on Thursday.

Dallas officials removed a statue of Gen. Robert E. Lee on Thursday, just days before a protest by the This is Texas Freedom Force at the same spot. But the group said it plans to gather at 11 a.m. anyway.

Robert Beverly, the group’s president, said the Lee statue’s removal “makes our battle even bigger.”…
